Also called “Viking Chain Netting” and “Viking Weaving”, this jewelry technique is done with neither knitting needles nor a loom, but instead with thin wire on a stick! Examples of these chains have been found in various archeological sites in Scandinavia dating back to the 8th century A.D.
Viking Knitting Kit
Authentic, ancient craft
This technique can be used to make necklaces, bracelets and earrings. The chain looks exquisite and complicated, but the process is simple and straightforward. This is a great portable handicraft you can do on the bus or plane.
To complete this project, you will need a draw-plate. These are very easy to make if you have any woodworking skills whatsoever, and the description of making the draw-plate is included in the 8 page instructional booklet. If, on the otherhand, you would like to own a hand-crafted red birch draw plate, they are available in the product list on this site!
Video instruction available on Taproot Video!
This kit comes with an 8 page full-color booklet, which will teach you exactly how to make the necklace or bracelet. If you choose, there is also a video class available for purchase (as a DVD, or streaming) on the Instructor's Co-op website; Taproot Video.
